Help us find and improve next week's Connection Finder profiles: Ontario Notables

We're halfway through the first WikiTree 7x7 Challenge of 2023, in partnership with Ontario Ancestors. Next week we will feature the seven starting profiles from the challenge in the Connection Finder:

  1. Beatrice Agnes Thelma Earl Tillman, CC7 621
  2. Alton C. Parker, CC7 326
  3. Elsie May Taylor Knott, CC7 625
  4. Sam Ching, not connected
  5. Fanny Rosenfeld, CC7 172
  6. Edwin Alonzo "John" Boyd, CC7 910
  7. Barbara McCallum Hanley, CC7 1383

Who else should we feature? We have room for four additional Ontario notables. We can't feature everyone who is nominated, but if we don't feature a profile you work on, we may use it sometime in the future. And, of course, all contributions help improve our shared tree.

Our choice of features will depend partly on the notable person's CC7, i.e. their connection count within seven degrees. The more connections they have, the more likely it is for all WikiTree members to find a close and interesting connection to them. So, if you nominate someone, please help grow their CC7.

If you want to check on a someone's CC7, you can use WikiTree+ by replacing "Example-X" with a WikiTree ID in this URL: https://wikitree.sdms.si/function/WTSysopGetCC7/GetCC7.htm?WikiTreeID=Example-X

We'll make a final decision on which ones to feature early next week.

Please reply here with what you're working on so that we don't duplicate our efforts. Thank you!

Take note that this is not the place to discuss why you think we shouldn't feature someone if those reasons are due to politics, actions, or opinions of those being suggested.  Mentioning things like their not being connected, their biography still needing work, erroneous information, etc. are all suitable for discussion here and an opportunity to correct those situations.

Help us plan Connection Finder themes for 2023 here.

Question on the partial dependency on the notable person's CC7 determination in selection - I have thought of potential nominees who are of Chinese (Adrienne (Poy) Clarkson), First People (Tom Longboat), Lebanese (Andy (Youakim) Kim), and Polish Jewish (Nita Celia (Franks) Franca) heritage.  While some additional relatives might be able to be added, it is unlikely that their CC7 counts will be high because the prior generations of their relatives are unlikely to be found. Further, some individuals have many children, and others have few, if any, children.  I understand the desire for someone to find a close connection, but how will the CC7 counts be calculated in making a selection?

We're still hammering out those details, Russell. Ideally, they'd have a reasonable number to begin with, but there are several factors at play, so it may not always be the case.
Thanks for the response.

John Labatt's CC7=620 now.
Way to go Laurie!
Leone Farrell’s CC7 will be higher, think it is over 1,000 now.
Indeed her CC7 is now 1310!
She had a lot of undated profiles in her suggestion list, once the info was found, many could be attached to existing branches, and extended a few of her branches.
Thank you. Well done!
Excellent work to increase the CC7 numbers!
Thanks, Dave.

Are we taking ordinary people? I looked quickly for migrants from Sweden to Ontario and found Nils (Pehrsson) Peterson, who was born in Skåne in 1849 and became a track man in Ontario. He has a very nice profile - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Pehrsson-128 - with a family group image and a CC7 of 990.

Thanks, Eva. I think we're going to go with notables this time around.

I just added a Wikipedia link and a research note for William Claus, https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Claus-91, who should be a notable Ontario Ancestor, but isn't yet.

Without the errant comma -- https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Claus-91

Thank you, Melanie!

G2G seems to enjoy doing that to some of our links.  I can see it, laughing at us.
(Taking a trip inside my brain might be considered either an amusement park ride, or a trip into horror.  cheeky)

Good suggestion, Mark. (Actually, he does carry the significant Ontarian sticker, which places him in the Ontario Notables category if you work through the categories: Ontario, Politicians = Ontario, Notables. However, he doesn't have a Notables sticker, which he should have.) And, Melanie, you made my day with your brain comment!
Thanks, Mark.
