Historical family trees held by the Hungarian National Archives, as secondary sources?

Family Search has digitalized 1000's of historical family trees of the nobility that are held by the Hungarian National Archives in Budapest. Title name and web address as follows: Magyar Országos Levéltár Genealógiai táblák, 13th-19th century, Salt Lake City, Utah : Filmre vette a Genealogical Society of Utah, 1968.https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/121344?availability=Family%20History%20Library

Would these documents be acceptable secondary sources for pre-1700 but post 1500 profiles?

thanks

Excellent find, Lisa!  I hadn't realised these had been digitised.  K

If you can read 'em, and identify which family (of possibly many) by that name they're talking about, and when (a lot of them are rather missing minor details such as dates), then I figure they're better than nothing. Also, even if they're wrong (which, well, how will we ever know? but anyway), I think there's value in having them deciphered and charted/entered in a publicly-accessible place, so that people don't need to keep re-inventing the wheel.

But speaking of re-inventing the wheel: aren't the big nobility compilations (Nagy Iván etc.) based at least partly on these genealogies? That is, haven't these been deciphered and charted already?

Hi Joseph,

Thanks so much for answering. I have been busy comparing these to both Bela Kempelen and Ivan Nagy and they usually match up, so likely they were these genealogists source of information. Also noted that there are repetitions of lines of family members that were documented by the different noble family archives which do match up. Many appear to be on pig vellum and are very aged (some hundreds of years old). I could try writing to the Hungarian National Archives to find out more information. Some information comes up on a google search but all in Hungarian and sadly for me that means a google translation which is a poor substitute.
Lisa, if there's a webpage that looks promising but you can't read it, post in G2G and I'll try to get to it.

(Joseph was my dad. I'm actually named after my mother. Who is named after her mother. And both of her grandmothers.)
