Goal#1: To add veteran stickers to profiles in the USBH "Needs Military Sticker" Category

Goal#2: To add family to existing Tuskegee Airmen profiles

Instructions:

• Post an answer below and tell us you will be participating.

GOAL#1

• Goal #1 is for people who know how to add the veteran stickers for each war. 
• Find a profile from the Needs Military Sticker category to work on. 
• On the edit tab, click the save draft button so others know that profile has been claimed.
• If a source isn't available on the profile to fully fill in the sticker, please find one and add it to the profile.
• Please fill in the branch, unit, and start and end dates when known. 
• Remove the Needs Military Sticker category once the sticker has been added.
• Please double check after saving your work that you haven't left any red linked categories.
• If you have any problems with categories, please post here and someone will help you.
• Please add a sticker for any special medals if you come across that in your research.

GOAL#2

• Goal#2 is for those of us who would like to leave the veteran stickers to members who are more experienced with them.
• Go to the Google spreadsheet  and put your Wiki-ID next to the first Tuskegee Airman you will be adding family members to. 
• The WikiTree profile is linked to the first name.
• Add at least the parents, siblings, spouse, children, grandparents and great aunts and uncles if you can find sources for them. You can keep going though! There's no limit to how much family you can add.
• If the family members have Black heritage according to sources, make sure they have the {{African-American Sticker}}.
• Please check any profiles already attached to the airmen for the sticker. If they don't have it, please check the sources to see if it should be added.

GOAL#3

• If we complete all the Airmen profiles before the weekend is over, feel free to create some new Tuskegee Airmen profiles from the space page. 
• Please add sources to the profiles and the African-American sticker. 
• If you create new profiles, please add them to the bottom of the spreadsheet and we'll link them on the space page later. The page is currently locked to prevent edit conflicts.
• Because all Airmen are notable, please either orphan the profile for us to pick it up or add USBH as co-manager (see the spreadsheet for the email address)

Hint: You can add these maintenance categories as needed: 

[[Category: US Black Heritage Project, Needs Sources]] (which means it needs MORE sources),

[[Category: US Black Heritage Project, Needs Profiles Created]] (which means you found a source with names for more family, but don't have time to create them right then)

We will not be tracking individual scores, but you can keep track of your own contributions and comment on your post at the end of the weekend just for fun.

I'll work on Tuskegee Airmen, since I'm the stinker who's been putting on all those Needs Military Sticker categories. I just added six more. :)

LOL! Me too. I spend 30 minutes trying to get one sticker added properly, so I've just given up

I just got it down to about 300, then it was back up to 320. *sigh*

If you use the new extention, you can add a sticker easily. It's the parameters that throw everyone and knowing how to add the units. If you don't have the unit, you can leave the parameter blank. Then the branch is used to add a category. (happens automatically for most of the stickers. And for Civil War, just don't forget the side!)

Sorry, Natalie, that was probably me. :) I know how to add the stickers, I just don't like adding them unless I know the unit/dates.

Sometimes I never find the dates or units or BOTH. I add it anyway if I know the war/branch.

My problem is I know the unit, but first I have to check if the category exists. If it doesn't, I have to research how to properly name the new category. I don't work with military cats very often.

I've started working on adding military stickers. I completely Henry Tyrone Abbott, but I couldn't find anything for Dudley Adams except his draft card, which is not proof that he served.

As a veteran myself, I will only add the sticker to people whose service can be proven with records.

I have a subscription to fold3, so if anyone needs me to do a lookup, PM me.

Yes, we only want to add stickers to people with proof of service. Thanks for being diligent about that and thank you for adding stickers!

While working on stickers, I came across James Anderson, Jr. Anderson-54435. He is a Medal of Honor recipient. I added a bunch of sources and improved his bio, and added the Notables Sticker as well.

I have the greatest admiration for MOH recipients. They deserve all the recognition we can afford them.

I'm working steadily. I've gotten the count down to 216. I've been adding sources and improving bios along the way, so it's slower going than I had hoped, but I won't stop until every profile has a sticker, no matter how long it takes.

I'm mostly still having fun connecting profiles in Fairfax County, Virginia, but I did make sure to fill out the sticker for the veterans I added. I hope it's a good sprint!

There are now 11 profiles remaining in the Category: US Black Heritage Project, Needs Military Sticker. There are three that I could not edit and one living profile I couldn't access. For the remaining ones, I was unable to document their service. Those will take some work, perhaps getting their records from the VA, if they are available. (The 1973 fire destroyed millions of records.)
