Saskatchewan Cemeteries Categorization

Can someone explain to me why the Saskatchewan cemeteries are categorized by Division?

Whenever I see Saskatchewan cemeteries, they are listed by Rural Municipality (RM), see  for example the Saskatchewan Cemeteries Project website.

This is a good question I've often wondered when categorizing Saskatchewan cemeteries! It's sort of confusing.

Hi Gerry!

No. Idea. LOL.

But I am more than happy to address it if there is a more logical approach.

Feel free to message me directly.

I think part of it is that the RMs are not well represented or named well in the location categories for Saskatchewan. Being from the US, I have no idea that https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:Garden_River_No._490%2C_Saskatchewan Garden River is a rural municipality by this category name. In the very least, the name should be reflected in the category info box with the name= parameter.
Exactly. There are 296 RM's, which is an overwhelming concept to try to start categorizing. I would be more in mind to use the 18 Census divisions to start.

I'll ask the rest of the team and see what we can come up with.
Good idea. I can see why the census divisions were used then...296 is A LOT of groupings to make for cemeteries!
OK I understand that the 'granularity' is overwhelming. Back to my question on cemetery categorization and names, can we add a subcategory of Rural Municipality?
If you need to add a cemetery, go ahead.
296 groupings is on a par with Texas counties (254). Do the people who live there know which census division they live in? Have all the census divisions been stable? Just questions.

Thinking about this some more, Québec has managed to get along without subdividing by a division higher than town/city. I would think that there are likely far more cemeteries there than in Saskatchewan so the Québec model should work there as well.

On WikiTree Maps you can see all geolocated cemeteries in Saskatchewan

If you look them by parent (on the left), all the cemeteries in a region are connected with a colored line.

Here is the link.
