can i add my family tree from Family Tree Maker straight into wikitree

The short answer is no. GEDCOMs are not imported directly into WikiTree. GEDCOM profiles must be processed individually before they can be added or edited using the GEDCOMpare process.

Generally speaking, one should learn thoroughly the manual editing process before attempting GEDCOMpare.

Please see this post as a starting point if you export a gedcom from FTM.  But...please do some more reading and thinking about the effort required to validate each entry and then clean up the horrible formatting mess that a gedcom import leaves behind.  Part of why WikiTree is mostly good is because it requires a human being to think about what they are creating and editing.

And one last point in case you weren't aware, within your copy of FTM it is "your" tree.  On WikiTree it is "the single shared copy of a worldwide family tree that we all are responsible for jointly" so the requirements for quality sources and provable family members goes up dramatically.

I think of profiles as gifts to the Community.  Each gift is unique and special so no duplicates please.
