The United States Project and its sub-projects cover the geographic region that we know today as the United States of America. See the United States Project page for information on our scope of activity, our sub-projects, and some related projects.

If you would like to help improve profiles in one or more of the United States sub-projects, please:

  1. Introduce yourself by answering this post. (Please post an answer, not a comment.) Tell us about your interests in the United States and how you intend to contribute and we will award you the United States Project badge.
  2. Add united_states to your followed tags, as well as tags for any specific states or special topics that you are focusing on.

Please be sure to check out our project page for links to the various sub-projects you might want to join. Note that several other specialized U.S.-related projects, such as US Southern ColoniesMayflowerPuritan Great MigrationUS Presidents, and the 1776 Project, have their own badges separate from this one. You don't need to join the United States Project to participate in one of those projects, and you should contact those projects to join them, but many of us work on profiles that encompass many areas/interests and may want to be in more than one project.

Please post your request to join us as an answer by clicking on the 'ANSWER THIS POST' link below.  Do not click on the comment or reply link(s).

Hi, I would like to be part of this for New York. I am currently part of the USBH Project adding profiles for western NY counties.
Hi John, this post was closed as a new join post has been started.  Please go to that post and click on the 'answer' button (NOT the comment button).

I would like to join the New York Project as part of this project.  I was born and raised in NYS and most of my research in in NY.

Lorraine, have you seen the USBH 1880 Census Project? We are adding profiles for every African American enumerated in the 1880 Census,  It is pretty interesting,
Message me if you would like more info.
USBH 1880 Census Project

I had looked into the 1880 project but it seemed pretty daunting and I'm pretty over-extended.  I thought by joining the New York Project, I could add the profiles I'm working on for personal research, my 2 one-name studies, and my one-place study, in New York, I could add profiles and pages to the New York Study.
Lorraine, as noted, this question has been closed because a new one was started.  You are welcome to join the U.S. project and the New York project, but you need to answer the new G2G post which is noted above.

I would like to become a team member for the US Project and in Massachusetts.

The vast majority of my edits are to profiles of people who live(d) in Massachusetts, and I do a lot of work reducing the suggestions counts related to Massachusetts.

Thanks for your attention.

Hi Dana, I've awarded you the U.S. Project badge.  You'll find the Massachusetts project page here.

Hello, I would like to volunteer for United States Project, and the Montana sub-project (which I don't think has a separate badge at this point).  I've created and contributed to a lot of US profiles, mostly centered around people who converged in Southwest Montana in the late 1800s.

I mostly follow Eccleston (Eggleston), Knapp, Levengood, Morse (Moss), Sparrow, Donahue, Sullivan.
by Eric Eccleston G2G2 (2.2k points)
Hi Eric, I've awarded you the U.S. Project badge.  Thanks for your work on Montana.

I'd like to join the Wisconsin Project. Most of my family has lived in Wisconsin for 150+ years and I've also taken an interest in adding, sourcing, and cleaning up profiles of Ojibwe/metis fur trade families on Lake Superior.

Hey y'all, I already do much of my work in North Carolina - specifically Chatham, Alamance, Randolph, Orange and Guilford counties.  I've spent quite a lot of time categorizing cemeteries in the region, and adding many twigs and leaves to trees.  Quakers are one of my special interests, as is the USBH project, which I've recently joined.  Looking forward to meeting more North Carolinians!

I would like to join the United States project, My focus has been on my family migrations from the northeast United States, through New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan where I was born. Now I live in Arkansas so I also planned to join the Arkansas project.

Earlier this year, I had worked on sourcing projects, data doctors, and the profile improvement project. My focus on sourcing and data doctors has been Michigan and Arkansas.

Looks like there are many sub-projects to help out with.
by Steve Gates G2G6 Mach 1 (18.6k points)
Hi Steve, I see that Lynette has already awarded you the U.S. Project badge earlier today when you joined the Arkansas project (a sub-project of the U.S. Project).  Thanks for joining.

Yes I do have ancestors in the USA, starting from the New England states to Iowa. Most of my recent ancestors are mostly from Illinois and Iowa. I would like to become a team member for the USA project, and I'm particularly interested in Virginia, Kentucky, Illinois and Iowa projects. I'm trying to locate my 2nd great grandfather who may have been born in Virginia, and he died n Illinois. I have very few records of him. I thought this would be a good start in this process of finding him.

I'm interested because at the moment I've found some things of interest through my ancestry DNA results and I'd like to make sure the information is accurate.
by Shaina Shine G2G1 (1.9k points)
Hi Shaina, you don't need to be a member of the project to peruse the profiles.  If you want to assist with researching and improving profiles, feel free to reach out again.

I would really like to join the Michigan Project for so many reasons, but the main reason is that I was born, and raised there, as well as my Children, Great Grandparents, Grandparents, and my Parents.
by Keith Mann Spencer G2G6 Mach 3 (31.7k points)

Hi Keith, you already have the U.S. project badge.  Each state is a sub-project of the U.S. and don't have separate badges.  You'll find the Michigan project here.

Hi, I am Priscilla Savary.  On my mom's side we have been in the USA for slightly more than 400 years.  Yes that makes us eligible for things like the DAR.  Some of my relatives have joined that group.  My current focus is two fold.  One - documenting military service and two - proving or disproving that Francis Scott Key married one of our cousins.
