Why do templates affect Save performance so much?

I've noticed that adding a template to a profile, in my case usually the England Sticker, causes a large jump in the time taken for a Save operation to complete. It gets to be a right pain after a while.

Is there anything that can be done to improve this?

The England Sticker template contains an exceptionally large amount of coding that might need to be parsed every time a page with the sticker is saved. I think there might be ways to code the options for all of the counties more efficiently. The techies who have access to server logs might have some ideas.

I've pointed the Template Project to this post so maybe they will be able to figure out how to make it more efficient.
