Help us find and improve next week's Connection Finder profiles: Alliterative Notables [closed]

1.1k views

Our weekly Connection Finder updated falls on 2/2/22, so we're looking for Notables with alliterative names (first and last name begins with the same letter), like Brigitte Bardot, in the Connection Finder.

Here's who we're getting started on:

Can you help with these profiles, or expand their families? Adding relatives in any direction helps with connections. Every missing relative you add will make our connections to them closer.

Who else should we feature? Do they need a profile?

All profiles we feature need a good biography and a connection to the big tree. We also want each one to have an image, and the image needs to have proper source attribution explaining why it's in the public domain or why we have the right to display it.

We can't feature everyone mentioned (we only have room for eleven per week), but if we don't feature a profile you work on, we may use it sometime in the future. And, of course, all contributions help improve our shared tree.

We'll make a final decision on which ones to feature early next week.

Please reply here with what you're working on so that we don't duplicate our efforts. Thank you!

To help us plan future themes, see the 2022 Example Profile Plans post here.

Brought over from the planning thread -----

For 2 Feb, the first thing that came to mind was that it's James Joyce's birthday. His profile could use some work, & needs to be connected (Ireland folks!), but I for one think it would be fabulous to have a theme around avant-garde authors or artists in general. If I'm sticking to Irish writers for inspiration, Brendan Behan was born on the 9th, & has a more thorough bio, though he is also not connected.

Jørgen Jensen (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Jensen-9904), a Danish-born Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross during the First World War. Is yet to be connected. Maybe a Danish member would like to take up the challenge ...

There's Sir Donald Dunstan (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dunstan-727), held the most senior Australian Army office before retiring and being appointed Governor of South Australia, eventually becoming South Aust's longest-serving governor.  Is connected.
by Kenneth Evans G2G6 Pilot (254k points)
I keep forgetting how to hyperlink the actual name in G2G.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dunstan-727

Your problem is - you're capturing the ), at the end of the url. which renders it as page not found.  Texting it down doesn't matter, although it's easy to do when you do it a lot.b  (Highlight the text, then click the little link icon (looks like a part of a chain), then paste the url.)

edited to add image of link icon

Thanks, Mel. You're a champion.

Not to be confused with Donald Allan Dunstan who was premier of South Australia 1967-68 and 1970-79, and would also be a good candidate: notable, photo, bio, connected.

Thanks, Kenneth, Melanie, and Jim.

The France Project members discussed this on Discord and we have a few suggestions (on top of Brigitte Bardot which you already mentioned):

  • Coco Chanel - French Fashion designer and icon (connected, has pictures, bio needs to be worked on a little; also Coco is a pseudonym so idk if that works)
  • Félix Faure - French president during the 1890s (connected, has pictures and bio though it could definitely be added to)
  • Jean Jaurès - French politician and important historical figure of the Left (connected, has a picture, needs a biography in English)
  • André-Marie Ampère - French mathematician and physicist, has an SI unit named after him (connected, has a picture, one member is currently working on bio)
  • William Waddington - French diplomat and archeologist of Scottish descent (connected, needs a picture and a more developed bio)

Please let us know if one or more of these would be a good pick, so we can focus our efforts on them :-)

if I were you I would just start to work on them My experience is that the more internationally known ones have the most chanche to get in the connection finder. So Ampere could be a good candidate. Coco Chanel would have been a good candidate but I'm not sure her name alliterates.......

But I'm not the one deciding. Just giving my honest opinions.
Thanks, Lea and Eef.

Boudewijn Büch is the Dutch notable I would like to see in the connection finder. He was a famous writer, poet, collector and TV-personality. He has a profile (need some work), an image and we are buzy connecting him to the main tree. (He is connected now!!)

From Sweden, my namesake Eva Ekeblad (1724-1786). Countess and agricultural inventor - first woman in the Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Connected, has portrait. Bio could do with some polish. I just adopted her - she's no relative of mine.

by Eva Ekeblad G2G6 Pilot (584k points)
That's pretty awesome Eva! Although I'll bet there will be some amusing confusion if they think that you are her...
There already has been confusion: somebody attached a congratulation for my 300 000 g2g points to the profile of her daughter back in 2019 :-)

Quite a number of people over the years have told me about this amazing fun fact about my namesake who taught the farmers to make alcohol out of potatoes, as if I had never heard of it before...

Anyway, I have now added to her bio, more or less to my satisfaction.
Thanks, Eva!

  • [[Calloway-659|Cab Calloway (1907-1994)]] (connected, but might have been done already?
  • [[Chaplin-117|Charles Spencer Chaplin Sr. (1889-1977)]] (probably been done already)

Thank you - I just came back to fix that. Was in too much of a rush last night :-)
At least you gave the ID#s!  (Made it easy for me to find the profiles.  I like to provide the links for Abby, so she doesn't need to do the hunting.)
Thanks, Richard and Melanie.

We could feature Ferdinand Foch, a Marshal of France who served as the Supreme Allied Commander in the final year of World War I.  His profile is connected and has a suitable photo.

Bertolt Brecht - Connected, has an OK bio (but bio would benefit from editing). The profile is currently illustrated only by a photo of his grave marker. There are several free-to-use images of him on Wikimedia Commons. I kind of like the caricatures, such as https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:39._Adolf_Hoffmeister,_Bertolt_Brecht,_1961.jpg , but others might prefer https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Bertolt-Brecht.jpg

The only one I can think of off the top of my head is President Woodrow Wilson.

by Scott Fulkerson G2G Astronaut (1.5m points)

Calvin Coolidge and Herbert Hoover would also be presidential options.

Hubert Humphrey - Vice President
