I am working with Laura DeSpain on the parentage of Rebecca Holland-13882. She suggested that I post here.  There is conflicting information on who the parents of Rebecca Holland are and I would appreciate the additional assistance.  Kathryn Ryan

What we are trying to verify is that the Rebecca Holland that married Jonathan Reeves is the daughter of Edmund Holland and Hawkins Hall. There appear to be two Rebecca/Bekky Holland's about the same age and both from Tennessee. In 1880 there is a census for one living with her brother in Tennessee. In another 1880 census, one is from Tennessee but had recently moved to Kentucky with her husband Jonathan Reeves.

There are sources on the profiles. If anyone can take a look and possibly find a source to help sort this out that would be great.

Thanks for clarifying what the conflict is. I had a quick look and did notice the two Rebecca's in FamilySearch. A suggestion for you, look up the date for when the census was taken on each document. If on the same day, not the same person. If on different dates possibly the same person.
I see the one 1880 Census says that a Rebecca is the sister of Warren Holland and that she is 21 years of age.

The other 1880 census shows a Rebecca, age 29, with her husband Jonathan Reeves, and a young child.

Questions....quite an age difference (8 years) between the two Rebecca's, cant see her being confused about her age if given on two census in the same year. Is Warren Holland actually a brother of your Rebecca? Can you place her family in that location? I can't see Rebecca leaving her young child behind if she was visiting family.

I am inclined to think they are different people.
They are different people. Jonathan was married to Elizabeth and had children the youngest a daughter named Annie in 1870. He was from Tennessee but living in Kentucky. In 1880 he was back in Kentucky in the same area. In that census, Annie was still in the home and he was married to Beckky. Beckky was born in Tennessee and they had a 4-year-old daughter Parzetta and she had been born in Tennessee. Parzetta's marriage record names her mother R E Holland.

It looks like Elizabeth died and he returned to Tennessee and then married Rebecca (Bekky) and had Parzetta. Then he moved back to Kentucky with them. That wasn't uncommon back then. There is a big age difference between Elizabeth and Rebecca his wives, and a gap between Annie and Parzetta.

Ages were not always consistent back then. We are trying to figure out which Rebecca was the daughter of Edmund Holland's and Hawkin Hall.
Thank you, for taking the time to look at these. I appreciate it, this is going to take a bit of unraveling.

Was stumbling around online looking for more info on the family. Found this, (maybe you have seen it already?) and while its unsourced its a good pointer to Johnathan Reeves 5 wives and his immediate family. https://www.genealogy.com/ftm/r/e/e/Doris-M-Reeves/GENE1-0006.html

If this is right, then Rebecca would have been wife #4. With one more wife after her.

Finding proof that this Rebecca is the daughter of Edmund Holland and Hawkins Hall will be tough. Records are sparse. I have been in this spot.. I took me 10 years of searching (unraveling!) before I found a document to prove the identity of my 3x gGrandmother!  During those 10 years I just kept researching the family I strongly felt she belonged to, where they all ended up, who they married, kids etc. I have found people that way too, on a census record for one of the other relatives - they went to visit.

I will keep looking, I am housebound with a head cold and have nothing but time at the moment!

Have done a fair amount of digging on Jonathan Reeves and his 5 wives. The Find A Grave author for this family is Christopher Reeves. He may have more information and you can contact him at the address I provided

Personally after working on the family today I feel strongly that the Rebecca who married Jonathan Reeves is Not the daughter of Edmund and Hawkins Holland.

I took all the census records we had for the E and H Holland family and can track the kids consistently. Though their birth dates swing every which way their initials stay mostly the same. I cant say for sure that the E and H Holland are actually Edmund and Hawkins. The kids in the E and H Holland family consistently say Mom was born in South Carolina and Dad in Tennessee which fits. But its not proof. And their Rebecca is in her brothers household in 1880. I also spent some time trying to find records for Single Rebecca's siblings - a death record or marriage record for any of them might prove the parents names.

Married Rebecca in the 1880 Census says her Mom was born in Virginia and not South Carolina. There were a lot of Holland families in the area so she could have come from any of them.

Wish I had something more for you but its a start.

Regards,

Lorraine
Thank you, for all your help with this. I also question whether the wife of Jonathan Reaves was the daughter of Edmund Holland and Hawkin Hill. Can you please edit the above comment and remove the email. G2G is public and spambots scour the internet for emails. Thanks
Whoops, done. Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you! smiley

Your welcome! It got really interesting unraveling the wives and children. Still some questions but a lot further along. I felt I didn't have enough on Huldy Mahaila Pickett to enter her yet. Elizabeth is Close. I could enter her based on the 1870 Census but was trying to lock down who's kids are who's. It looks like Parzetta is not Rebecca's child. She is Elizabeth Johnson's. Its all in the research notes on Jonathan Reeves.
Parzetta's marriage record lists R E Holland as her mother. I have not found a death record for her to see who it lists her mother as.

Sorry, yikes I have been suffering a head cold and am on drugs laugh. I am in error!  should have said Parzetta is Rebecca's child. But Annie is not, she is Elizabeths child.

Well, that will do it.wink I hope that you start feeling better soon. I agree, that is the same conclusion that I came to. Annie is in the home with Elizabeth 10 years before. Elizabeth had to be Annie's mother.

I have gotten in to the habit of checking connections - your 11th great grandmother https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Arents-3  is my 8th great grandmother. We are 9th cousins 3x removed! The world is a smaller place than I thought! smiley

Wow, I have not checked that line back that far. Thank you, that is very interesting. Hello, cousin! smiley
