How do I advance my ancestors when the profile manager changes to someone else?

I am the profile manager for Duncan Grant (Grant-17965) son of Duncan Grant and Margaret Brown. When I go t add ancestors to this line it immediately goes to profile manager Bill Brown. So how do I advance MY Grant line?

You add ancestors for whom you have sources to say they belong.  You don't need to be a manager of the other profile to add parents to it, but it is considered good Wikitree practice to communicate with the other profile's manager when making what are considered major changes, such as adding parents.  (This may not always be possible (inactive PMs are a thing) -- and oftentimes we get so caught up in "getting it done", we forget.)

No-one owns profiles on Wikitree, we manage them.  There aren't separate trees, just - as you state - our own branches of the one Tree, where we try to attach our lines to the main trunk.
Ellen, I note that the profile attached as father https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Grant-9835 is entirely unsourced and even the "source" used is a dead link to an Ancestry family tree. Nothing here is documented. WikiTree has a disturbing number of poorly sourced, error ridden and even fictional lineages in Scotland. I am retagging your question with Scotland and please feel free to contact that project for additional assistance (and join it if you like!).

Hi Ellen,

Melanie & T. have given you some good advice. A quick check of Scotland's People and FamilySearch confirms that the parents and siblings of "your" Duncan that you've added appear to be correct.

The parents' profiles could use some solid sources, too, as T. points out. You can add sources and make changes to those parents, but it is expected that you'll try to collaborate with the existing profile manager. I note that he hasn't been active on WikiTree in 9 months. You can & should leave comments on both the Grant profiles and the profile manager's profile to let him know that you'd like to work on profiles that he manages and the changes you'd like to make.

If there are changes you need to make that require you to be the profile manager, you can go throught the process for Unresponsive Profile Managers. But I don't see a need for that so far.
