Open profile requests, PM is not active

Is there a way to open profiles for 2 people who died in the 1980s? The profile manager has not been active on WT since 2012. I was able to adopt all of the PM's profiles except these 2 in October 2020.

I have all the biographical information and sources for the 2 people. They are currently Private with Public Biography, McClellan-232 and his wife Martin-7813

I would use the Unresponsive Profile Manager process.  But some kind and powerful personage might see your post and shortcut it for you.

I used the unresponsive process for the other 100+ people.

I wondered if the death dates in the 1980s made a difference because they are not required to be open?
If you have improvements to make but can't do it because of the Privacy setting and an absentee PM, Unresponsive PM is the solution.  The Privacy setting is not meant to be a barrier to collaboration, which is why the UPM process begins with a Trusted List request.  The recent dates are the reason you have to use UPM rather than an Open Profile request.
Great thanks!
After filing the unresponsive profile manager report ,the end result was 18 blacklisted profiles deleted and 25 profiles opened.

George McClellan was born in the 1880s. This means he doesn't fall into the "older than 150 years, thus obligatory to have an open profile" category. So technically the PM has the right to restrict the privacy at that profile. I don't know how the procedure is if a member is inactive for such a long time. You might write a mail to the Team and ask if there is a possibility to be able to edit the profile.

This is the information on the Unresponsive Profile Managers Help page for Private Profiles

Private and Unlisted profiles of modern people present a different problem. We cannot allow them to be adopted by anyone who isn't already on the Trusted List.

If you are trying to add a modern family member and discover that one of your relatives has already added them, make sure you do all the following:

Propose a merge or send a Trusted List request.

Send a Private Message to the manager (an e-mail message is better if you have their address). This is important because Trusted List requests can get caught in spam filters.

Post a comment on the manager's profile.

If you have not heard back on any of these for seven days, feel free to create the duplicate profile or family line.

At the same time, check the member's Contributions list. If it has been more than six months since their last contribution, click the link for the Unresponsive Profile Manager form on the main profile page (a small text link in the box with Trusted List information). When we receive your request through this form, WikiTree will try to e-mail them. If they don't reply for seven days, we will orphan all Public and Open profiles they were managing and delete all Private and Unlisted profiles unless there is someone else on the Trusted List, or extenuating circumstances.

I had already posted a comment, sent a private email and then today sent a Trusted list request. In a week or so I will create a duplicate and then do the UPM, as their children are also deceased.

Does anyone else find the help page encouragement "feel free to create the duplicate profile" odd here? Perhaps it is out of date. My understanding was that the only situation in which duplicate profiles can deliberately be created is adoption.

Jim, although I agree that it certainly looks like there's something very wrong with that advice, I can't say I find it odd - my impression is that what appear to be glaring gaffes (including contradictions on different pages all linked to each other) in the help pages are fairly standard.
Please don't create a duplicate profile.  The UPM process works well and you will probably have the other profile orphaned in a week or so.  When you do the UPM page, make sure to state the 2 or 3 profiles for that PM that you want to work on, so they can open them up together. They may very well leave the other profiles alone, not sure what the criteria is for orphaning all profiles for a PM
The help page was last edited Nov 2020.

I have used the UPM process previously when I adopted all of the open profiles from this PM.
They have been changing a bunch of help pages, but they are only creating versions in other languages.

The unresponsive profile manager request, when granted, is likely to result in the person's account being closed.  If that happens, then public profiles will be made open and orphaned along with all open profiles managed by this (now) former member.  Private profiles are a different story.  They will normally be deleted unless a family member is willing to take over their management.

The only way for this to happen is to write to  and ask to be made manager, with explanation of why you think it is appropriate for you to be granted access to these private profiles.
