Putnam is a locational surname, so probably has bearers who are unrelated in the male line. It also has more than one origin; I have ancestors named Boudemont from France; they were Huguenot refugees, and went to Germany, where their name got transmogrified into "Buttman" or "Putman", and then in some instances rendered as "Putnam" after they came to America in the mid-1700s.

I should have said the Puttenham family of England. Male decendents of Sir Roger Puttenham.
The first thing to do would be to look for the Sir Roger Puttenham on WikiTree and see if he's out there. I found a few, depending on when he was born.

My guess is we're talking about Puttenham-42, but I can't be for certain.

Once we've clearly identified that he exists, we can look at the descendant charts and identify genealogists who have joined WikiTree. And from there, we can see if there are active ones.
Puttenham 42 is correct.
Not much going on prior to this guy:

Then the tree explodes into a large number of descendants. Let me see if there's a WikiTree+ query that can be run on this to find genealogists.
Thank you
Well, so far I'm striking out on some creative way to find out this information. WikiTree+ relies on a number of keywords, and while "Guest" appears to be one of them, "User" or "Genealogist" does not appear to be one of them. I thought there might be an outside chance that you could run a descendant chart from the guy I mention above, however, the query times out just prior to showing the generation level that would show actual users. I might try restricting it to "Living" persons if I could figure it out, and then there would be a short list to pick through. I'll have to think on this, as I'm not really an expert on WikiTree+ queries. I did send a note to Ales, who is the expert, and we'll see what he can come up with.

So far only the reliable method that I can come up with is the old manual method of poking down the descendants to the living generation, but that could be a bit time consuming.

Still haven't given up as of yet, but striking out so far. I did also look into previous G2G queries in this area, and it doesn't appear that anyone came up with a good solution as of yet, but I'm sure there is one.
There we go - that limited things to a manageable number. Hopefully we're on the right track. In a search for "Putnam isLiving" it came up with 8 names. I think we can work with that.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Putnam-453 (curious - might be the same person as 320 - this one's a Family Member account)

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Putnam-1127 (Family Member account)

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Putnam-1134 (Genealogist account)

The only thing I don't know is if they're directly descended from Putnam-137, but we should be able to check. At least it's a short list to work with though.
Oh shoot - there's 8 pages of them - total of 85... guess there's a lot of Putnam genealogists out there... wow.

I'll give you the query and you can do a little checking around with them to see who you might want to contact.

Well, took a shot at seeing if I could find ones blood related to Putnam-137.

Putnam-1135 was the first I got a confirmation on.

Putnam-1622

Putnam-1779

Putnam-2215

Putnam-2236

Putnam-2393

Putnam-3264

Putnam-3579

There were several who had their privacy turned up so that you couldn't tell, but these were the ones I could confirm. Hope that helps.
Thank you very much.
