Hello everyone,

I was researching Gerrit Burgers, the husband of my 4th-great-grand-aunt, and the records shoe he served in the military and was a kolonist, or settler.

Does anyone know how I can find out where or when?

About the settler part: he  died in Ommen as a "kolonist". In Ommen was the "Ommerschans" a beggars colony where all the municipalities of the Netherlands could send their beggars and vagabonds to. It seems he was one of them.

here is a link to information about the place

and this link is meant for people looking for ancestors who have been there. This one too.

Sorry for the late reply.

Thank you so much, that is very fascinating!

I would never have guessed that he lived in a beggars colony!
