Are you surprised there isn't a profile for Jean Beliveau?

Canada lost a great gentleman yesterday: Jean Beliveau. It would be nice to see a profile for him under the Quebecois or Acadian project

Great Job All!
He's my 8th cousin, thrice removed! :) Great work everyone!
Actually, make that 4th cousin, thrice removed! I just connected his Cormier line! :)
Jean dit Gros Bill Belliveau, of acadian descent, is also my 8th cousin once removed
And my eighth cousin as well! We share a seventh great-grandfather.
Jean and Lola are 8th cousins three times removed!!!

Just came across your question and find he was my sixth cousin 1x removed. In my research during the past few years, I have found much information about my European ancestry; but, also have found much about my Canadian ancestry; namely, that I am re 'cousin' of the new Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau and many of the past Prime Ministers! Fascinating stuff, to be sure.

Thank you for your question/post.
Almost all of us whose ancestors were in the St Lawrence Valley before 1700 are cousins, and a lot of the Acadiens too. My cousins include Trudeau the Lesser, and Tom Mulcair, and even Madonna Ciccone ...
"Trudeau the Lesser" - I don't think he'd like that designation. You must be a tory. lol
New Democrat, using the appellation after Marx's "Napoleon the lesser".
I am honored to find out he's my 8th Great Grand Cousin, twice removed!
7th cousins twice removed

I looked as well and didn't find one. I agree, there should be one!

He's been added to the category for the Order of Canada, but he should also be added to a French-language category for the Order of Quebec.
I didn't see a Jean Beliveau profile.  I will start to put names down to his acadien ancestor. Now.
Oups...  I did not realise he was on Wikitree but he is.

In looking at his ancestors I notices [[Beliveau-39|Jean Baptiste Beliveau]] was born in "Port Royal, New Brunswick, Canada". Unless there is another place by the same name I think it should be "Port Royal, Nova Scotia" of "Port Royal, Acadie". Perhaps someone in the know should have a look at this.

I noticed Port-Royal had moved to New-Brunswick on a few other profiles as well. I meant to fix those, but didn't remember off-hand when Port-Royal, Acadie changed to Port-Royal, Nova Scotia (or Nouvelle-Ecosse?).

I've been thinking for a while that we need a list of Acadian locations with the proper names to use on WikiTree for the various time frames.
Port-Royal, Acadia, Canada was taken over by the British under Francis Nicholson in 1710 and he renamed it Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, Canada. And in 1713 under the treaty of Utrech Acadia was granted to th British.

So officialy the name change took effect in 1713 but many, like myself,  use the 1710 date to make the change from Port-Royal, Acadia to Annapolis, Nova Scotia.

Thanks for posting this, Eugene. I hope you don't mind, but I've added the notables tag to your posting so more people will see it.

If anyone wants to collaborate on his tree, I've created a profile for Jean Béliveau.

Who will continue ?  I can add ancestors down to Acadia but with just the mariage dates.  Was done before.

Is it OK or someone else is working on it ?
Anyone is welcome to work on an open profile :)
I just wanted to make sure we won't have 12 profiles to merge :)

OK... I started.  I only have the mariage dates for now.  We will search birth dates later. For now, birth dates will be 25 y before mariage and will fix them later.

I started Jean Beliveau Tree but I am stuck.

I come to Jean-Batiste Beliveau (No. 39 and 45) both married to Margerite Melancon 151.

The PM is on Wikitree once a month.  I send him a note for help.  We need to fix that family before I continue.

Thanks, Guy. I've also removed the "Rejected Match" between the two Beliveau profiles, and proposed a new merge.
Fine.

I also asked for a merge to connect Jean Beliveau to this family.

Not to hijack a thread about Jean Beliveau, but one of his teammates also passed away recently. Gilles Tremblay died on November 26.

Here is his profile for anyone who would like to work on his tree and connecting him to the big one.

Working on Beliveau... I could try for Tremblay after.
Cool, once we have enough profiles, we could have a new AJ style connection finder! "How closely related are you to the Habs?" Living close to Boston, I could have fun with something like that!
Someone should open a Hockey subproject in the Canadian History project ;)
There are a lot of folks who send requests saying they're related to hockey players, especially Canadian ones.
Just for fun, if we're talking hockey, one of my first cousins married Philippe Myre, who was goalie for the Habs and then Edmonton before going down to the U.S. for the Flames I believe.

There's a list of 802 Canadiens players on Wikipedia. I bet the French Canadian ones would be pretty quick to connect to the tree. We've got 2 connected already!

John Tremblay and I are 10th cousins according to WikiTree. Whew!, I AM related to a lot of the Canadian Prime Ministers, among others.

As  Erin created the profile for Gilles Tremblay (hockey player) I made the direct line to his ancestor in 1600's.  It is now a work in progress for all of us.
