Orphans and Trusted Lists

One irritant that I think could be fixed with an automatic email notice occurs when a profile has a profile manager, say, George, and several other interested people on the trusted list -- Tom, Dick and Harry.

Currently, if George takes his name off the profile, it is orphaned, and Joe may adopt it.  Tom, Dick and Harry don't know about this until they get a notice that Joe has adopted the profile, and they wonder, "who is Joe?  We're the ones who have been working on the profile."

It would be nice if in situations like this, the others on the trusted list were automatically notified when George took his name off the profile, then Tom, Dick or Harry could step up to be profile manager.  Joe should be welcome, of course, to work on the profile and be on the trusted list if he wishes, but Joe is a latecomer, and the others should have priority..

In the meantime, would process work? Would Tom, Dick, and Harry get an email when George, before removing himself as manager, put a message on the profile?
No, it wouldn't work in general, because we can't rely on George to post the message.
At this point WT posts an automatic notification to everyone on the trusted list when someone adopts an orphan and becomes PM-- but not an automatic notification when someone stops being a PM and leaves the TL.  It would solve the problem if the automatic notification was triggered by ALL changes, not just some of them.
I didn’t know an email goes out already when one adopts a profile. In this case, the code is already written and just needs to check for the condition for when one orphans a profile.
Do people get emailed when someone adopts a profile? I know it shows up in the activity feed, but I performed some tests and didn't receive an email.

Should WikiTree automatically assign the profile manager to one of the members on the trusted list? If so, what criteria should it be based on?

I think that requires too much thinking by the computers -- and an ability to guess the wishes of those on the TL.  Just a notification would do, and then let those on the TL decide!
I agree!
