Samuel Clark Barnum was born abt. 1840 the son of Isaac Curtis Barnum and Jennie (Foot) Barnum. He was was killed at the “Battle of Cold Harbor” I adopted this profile but need some input as I found his F.A.G. Link showing a different month and day of death as June 19, 1864. His profile shows he died July 1, 1864.  Also his rank out is Adjutant. I’m not sure what that represents? His rank in was 2nd Lt. Any help in updating his military sources and info will be greatly appreciated.

Although it's possible that Samuel was wounded at the Battle of Cold Harbor, the death dates given suggest that he died a week or more afterward. The battle was fought on consecutive days from May 31 through June 12, 1864. I haven't found a source that explains the discrepancy in the dates given for his death.

The following is what is engraved on his headstone.

Born at Brookfield, wounded at Cold Harbor, Va. June 3, died at Washington D. C. June 19, 1864, Aged 26.

Perhaps July 1 was his burial date because of the time it took to return his body to his family for burial. (??)

I agree the gravestone is very detailed and specific about his dates. I added his birth place as Brookfield Ct and I’m thinking we should add Washington D.C. as place of death as that is what is on his gravestone, currently his place of death is cold harbor
