George Turfrey migrated from England to New Zealand.

Birth

George was born in 1864 in Hanborough, Oxfordshire.^[1] He was the son of Thomas Turfrey and Eliza Berry. His baptism took place at St Peter and St Paul, Hanborough on 11th December 1864.^[2] His father stated on the register that he was a labourer.

Emigration

The Turfrey family (Thomas, wife Eliza and children Sarah, William, George, Edwin, Lizzie, Jane and Kate) emigrated on the "Winchester" which left the UK on 2nd May 1874. and arrived in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand on 27th July 1874.^[4] The records show they came from Oxfordshire and that Thomas was a railway labourer.

Marriage

George Turfrey and Ellen Reeve married on 30th October 1895 at Waipawa, Hawke's Bay, New Zealand.^[5] They had five children: George Turfrey (1896–1896), Mary Reeve Turfrey (1898–1898), Alice Turfrey (b. 1899), Lewis Fifield Reeve Turfrey (b. 1902), Ellen Ruth Fifield Reeve Turfrey (b. 1904).

Death

George Turfrey died in 1931 at Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui, New Zealand. He was buried at Kelvin Grove Cemetery, Palmerston North.^[6][7]
