Biography
John was born in Sept 1810. He was baptised in Nov 1810 at Jedburgh Associate Congregational Church. He is the son of William Sinton and Isabella Scott. [1]
He married Mary Gillies on 29 Nov 1835 at Jedburgh. [2]
Children: 1837 William; 1839 Jane; 1841 James; 1843 Isabella (married Falconer); 1845 George.
In 1841 the family were at Cavers, Denholm: John, 30, agricultural labourer; Mary, 30; William, 4yrs; Jean/Jane, 2yrs; James, 3 months. [3]
Mary passed away between 1846 (birth of George) and April 1851.
In 1851 the family were living at Woodside Cottage, Cavers: John, 40yrs, game watcher; Isabel 14yrs; William 12yrs; Jane 10yrs; James 7yrs; John ; George 5yrs. Servant - Mary Dickson 21yrs. [4]
Prior to April 1861 he married his servant Mary Dickson. They had children.
In 1861 the family were living at Woodside Cottage, Cavers: John, 50yrs, game watcher; (2nd) wife Mary Sinton born Haddington; George 15yrs Stone Mason; Robert Sinton 6yr scholar; Thomas Sinton 4yrs; Mary Sinton 10 months. [5]
John passed away (suicide) in Feb 1865 at Fulton, Bedrule. [6]
