John went under many surnames and changed not only his surname but also that of his wife and children. Aka surname,s: Campbell, Davidson, Runciman, Cunningham, Gray,
04 APR 1849 ? marriage cert gives the age of 29 at time of marriage in 1879, this would suggest John was born in 1850. Banton, Par. of Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland, 55.989092,-4.007696
Place: Banton, Par. of Kilsyth, Stirlingshire, Scotland, 55.989092,-4.007696
Note: FamSearch extract indexes as DAVIDSON, no father listed, the Parish register however shows John as surname CAMPBELL, the natural son of Mary DAVIDSON, followed immediately by daughter Mary's birth 1 Jan 1854, surname DAVIDSON, both at Banton. The page contains births from 1839 to 1854 organised mostly by families.
This does rather cast doubt on John's later certificates and census records which show him as RUNCIMAN![2][3][4]
