Biography

John Peffers was born on 10 August 1817 at Crawhill, Innerwick, Haddingtonshire and baptised on 24 August 1817 in Innerwick, son of William Peffers and Ann (Runciman) Peffers. ^[1]

In 1841 he lived at Meiklerigg, Stenton, Haddingtonshire where he was an agricultural labourer. ^[2]

About 1846 he married Elizabeth Yorkston. ^[3] They had 7 children.

On 22 May 1850 he arrived in New York, USA on board the Circassian sailing from Glasgow, Lanarkshire. ^[4]

In 1861 he lived in Plympton, Lambton, Ontario, Canada where he was a railroad engineer. ^[5] By 1870 he was living in Meadville, Crawford, Pennsylvania where he was a railroad agent. ^[6] Ten years later he was living at Atlantic Avenue, Meadville where he was a lumber inspector. ^[7] By 1900 he was living at 709 Baldwin Street, Meadville working as a civil engineer. ^[3]

He died on 27 October 1909 in Meadville age 91 years. ^[8] He is buried in Greendale Cemetery, Meadville. ^[9]
