Biography
Harold Norman Morrison or Agnew was born in 1894 at Hikuai, Coromandel, New Zealand. He was the son of Gordon Agnew and Ellen Morrison (and not Gordon's wife Letitia).[1] Note: In his WW I enlistment papers he gave his date of birth as 4/11/1893 but in his WW II enlistment papers he gave his date of birth as 4/11/1894 and his birth was registered in 1894 so that seems to be the correct year.
Harold Norman Agnew served in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force during World War I. He served in New Zealand from 8 Mar 1916 to 25 June 1916, then embarked for Europe arriving in Devonport on 22 Aug 1916 and three weeks lated was serving in France. He suffered from Pneumonia and was hospitalised for a time before returning to service. Then in Aug 1917 he was wounded in action and after recovering he was declared unfit and returned to New Zealand on 7 Jan 1918 and was discharged on 12 Feb 1918.[2]
Harold Norman Agnew married Bernadene Theresa Thelma Smith in 1921.[3] They had at least 2 children.
Harold Norman Agnew served in the NZ Home Service during World War II from 30 Mar 1942 to 26 Apr 1943. He was living at 20 Halston Rd, Balmoral, Auckland and working as a Barman when he enlisted.[2]
Harold Norman Agnew died in 1949 at his home at Balmoral, Auckland.[5] He was buried at Waikumete Cemetery.[6] He is also commemorated on the Auckland Museum Online Cenotaph.[7]
