Ellen Morrison was born in 1872 at Doocarrick townland in Ashfield district, County Cavan, Ireland. She was the daughter of James Morrison, a farmer at Doocarrick. No civil birth registration record has been found.
Ellen's family emigrated to New Zealand in 1874 when Ellen was 1 1/2 years old. They sailed on the "Queen of Nations" from Belfast on 21 Mar 1874 and arrived at Auckland, New Zealand on 5 Jul 1874.[1][2]
Ellen's sister Letitia married Gordon Agnew of Tairua, Coromandel in 1879 and they started a family. Ellen and Gordon Agnew also had children together between 1890 and 1910. Few of the children appear in civil birth records and there is some uncertainty about which of the children are Ellen's and which are Letitia's. Family information says Letitia was the mother of 7 children and Ellen was the mother of 13 children.[3]
When Gordon Agnew died in 1911 at Hikuai he left all of his property to Ellen Morrison.[4]
Ellen Morrison died in 1963 at Meadowbank, Auckland, New Zealand.
