Alexander was born in 1890 in Banton, Stirlingshire Scotland.[1] He was the son of Thomas Miller and Margaret Sneddon.
At the time of the 1901 Census Alec, his parents and 10 siblings were living in the village of Banton.[2]

Alec's father died in 1901 and his mother in 1905. His sister Agnes brought up the younger children.
In 1911 Alec, 3 sisters and 3 brothers are living in Kelvin Cottage, Banton.[3]

He served as a Lance Corporal (No. 267276) with the Royal Highlanders 1/6 Battalion (Black Watch) during WWI. He was reported missing in action in France on 22 March 1918. It wasn't until August that the family knew he was still alive and a POW. He eventually returned home to Banton in December 1918.
He married Jessie Braid on 3 August 1923 in Kilsyth.[4]
They had children:
He passed away in Banton in September 1954[5] and is buried in Kilsyth Cemetery.[6]
