Biography

William McEwan was baptized on 15 Feb 1824 in Crieff, Perthshire.^[1][2] He was the son of William McEwan and Ann Young.

In the 1841 census Wm, age 15, hand loom weaver cotton, was in Newqury, Crieff, Perthshire.^[3] He was listed with his mother Ann and his siblings.

William married Margaret Marshall on 11 Jan 1846 in Crieff, Perthshire.^[4] Their children were:

In the 1861 census William, age 37, labourer, was the head of household at 43 India Place, Edinburgh St Stephen, Midlothian.^[6] He was listed with his wife Margaret and children William, Helen, Ann, James, Alexander, and Peter.

In the 1871 census William, age 46, masons labourer, was listed in the household of his mother Ann Mcewan at 8 Mackenzie Proc, Edinburgh St Stephens, Midlothian.^[7]

William died on 5 Oct 1887 in Edinburgh, aged 63.^[8] He was buried in North Merchiston Cemetery, Edinburgh.^[9][10]
