James Manson was born 8 July 1830 and was baptised at Watten, Caithness, on 8 August 1830.[1] His parents were Donald Manson and Isabella McAdie.[2][3]
In 1851 James was living with his widowed mother and some of his siblings at the family landholding in Gersay, Watten, Caithness.[4]
In 1871 he was still farming at Gersay "31 acres arable" and in the household were his mother Isabella, 16 year old nephew, Donald Bain, 11 year old niece Margaret Bain, both b Wick and a farm servant, 38 year old unmarriied Elizabeth McAdie, 38 (born Watten).[5]
He died on 28 Nov 1871, the informant for his death being brother George.[2]
