Biography

Baptism: 12 APR 1800 in Watten, Caithness, Scotland. Entry reads: "Robert McAdie in Lynegar and Margt Sinclair is (sic) spouse had a daughter baptized named Isobel before witnesses, John Barnetson in Lynegar & George McAllan in H(?? illegible)".[1]

Marriage: 01 DEC 1826 in the parish of Wick, Caithness. OPR entry reads: Nov 3rd 1826 Manson Donald in Coghill Parish of Watten was maty Contr to Isobel MacAdie daug. of Robert MacAdie in Mireland. Wm Rosie cooper in Wick (assumed to be Isabella's new brother-in-law) stood for the man and Wm MacAdie in Mireland (assumed to be Isabella's brother) for the woman, married Dec 1st. IGI: "Donald Manson to Isobel MacKadie"[2][3]

Isabella is named as the mother of Robert Manson who was baptised in Watten, Caithness, on 3 March 1833.[4]

In 1841 Isabella is recorded on the 1841 Census as living at Cogle, Caithness. Entry: Manson: Donald Head, 40 farmer; Bel, 40; also Sinclair 13; James 10; Robert 8; Donald 5; George 3 and Christina 6mths

In 1851 Isabella was named as the head of the house at the family farm in Gersay, Watten, Caithness.[5]

Name: Isabella Sinclair MacAdie (although spelt Isobel McAdie when daughter Sinclair baptised).

Death: 05 APR 1873, Gersay, Watten, Caithness, Scotland. Certificate reads: Isabella Manson (widow of Donald Manson, farmer) at 5pm Gersa Watten, 72 yrs, d/o Robert McAdie farmer dec. & Margaret m.s. Sinclair, dec.; of natural decay, no regular medical attendant. Inf. Robert Manson, son, Edinburgh. Reg. Watten 10th Apr(p/copy held by L McIntosh).

In 1861 Isabella is recorded as living at Gersay. The 1861 census reads: (all Manson): Isabella, widow, head, farmer 30 acres; James, 30, unm, ploughman; George, 23, unm, labourer; Christina, 19, unm, farm servant.

Isabella's parents: did they move to Wick or are the last 3 children another family? No marriage obvious on indices at New Register House 1770-1819, nor in Watten OPR (from ? to 1797).
