Points for Further Research

  • It was asked if the family had emigrated from Scotland as "There is no record of John, Isabella and their family after Isobel's birth". Yes, several did, but not John and Isobel. Henderson-2297
  • Baptism: there might be a marginally later John as I've just noticed that my original notes on the family had 12 Apr 1780 - will check further later and adjust birth / baptism info for this family if so. Update The reference in my notes was actually to his brother James - false alarm. Henderson-2297.
  • John was probably related to David McAdie who is recorded on parish baptism records as living at South Dunn, in Watten, as late as 1823. The exact connection between these two men is to be confirmed.
  • John was also probably related to Robert McAdie, who is also recorded as living in South Dunn on the 1841 Scotland Census.

Seven years later (1863) he came to New Zealand, and almost straightway took up land near Balclutha, where he spent the rest of his days.
