Robert Junkine is assumed to have been born about 1755, probably in Perthshire. Possibly to James Junkin and Janet Montgomerie. ^[1]

He and Catharine Neilson married in 1776, Port of Menteith, Pertshire, Scotland.^[2]

Robert's birth

No baptism for Robert is immediately obvious in the ScotlandsPeople OPR records using a J*n*k*n* wildcard search.

By place, and a first son named James, and a 2nd daughter (unsourced) named Janet, it does seem likely he belongs to the family of James Junkine and Janet McGomery

In addition several of his children's baptisms show them living at Tarr

about 1755 has been picked as the date given lack of other gaps in recorded siblings

NB many trees show Robert as born 1751, attaching a source for his brother Patrick's 1751 baptism Henderson-2297

As at May 2024 a descendant of Robert's has tested FamilyFinder & y37 (toe in water test to see if a match) and is showing a confirmed high level haplogroup of R-S691 from FamilyFinder, along with his closest y37 matches being those already tested to BigY from the Perthshire and Stirlingshire families who currently "meet" at R-BY19860.
