James is the son of James Junkine and Catherine McQueen. He was born in Tarr, Perthshire in 1708, being baptised in Port of Menteith parish on the 17th of December.^[1]

He married Janet Montgomerie in 1737, their banns being on the 28th of April^[2] and they had at least six children: James, John, William, Alexander, Patrick and Mary. They may also have had a son Robert Junkine

In addition James also had a daughter, Janet Junkine.

James Junkine Mortcloth fee was paid on the 14th of July, 1776, in Port of Menteith parish, suggesting a date of death shortly before this.^[3]
