Patrick was born in Perthshire, Scotland. His parents James Junken and Catherine McQueen baptised him in the parish of Port of Menteith on the 2nd of March, 1812.^[1] His marriage banns to Elizabeth Shaw were listed in the parish of Port of Menteith on the 15th of November and the couple married 10th of December, 1747.^{[2] [3]}

They had at least five children named: James, Catherine, Elizabeth, John and William Junkine

When son James was baptized in 1748 they were living at Callimuck.^[4] For daughter Catharine in 1750, at Tar of Rusky. ^[5]By the time Elizabeth,^[6] John^[7] and William^[8] were baptized in 1752, 1754 and 1757 they were living at Borland of Rusky.
