Farewell to Candidate Glennie Drury. Last Tuesday night a farewell meeting was tendered Candidate Glennie Drury at the Salvation Army Hall, Taree, on the eve of her departure for the Training College. A large number of Salvationists and other friends gathered for this special occasion. Candidate Drury was connected with four particular sections of the Corps, and words of appreciation of her character and work were spoken by a representative of each section. Mr. Muscio (next door neighbour at Glenthorne) also spoke highly of her life and determination to do what was right. The comrade's cheerfulness and her willingness to help with the work whenever possible was referred to by Adjutant Myers, Corps Officer. After Brother Arthur Reed had sung as a solo, "Jesus Calls Me, I Am Going," Candidate Drury thanked the various speakers, and also paid tribute to her parents' willingness to sacrifice and so make it possible for her to have time to do her part in working for the Lord. Presentations to the candidate included a New Testament from the Juniors, and a Bible from the Seniors. At a surprise party given last week at the home of Brother and Sister Keith Henry, a number of young people presented her with a writing case. On Wednesday a party of friends and relatives were present at the railway station to bid the candidate Godspeed as she departed for Sydney. |
