Wedding description[8]
The Northern Champion (Taree, NSW) - Saturday 22 February 1947 - page 1
DRURY—WILTON The Salvation Army Citadel, Wollongong was the scene of an interesting wedding on 11th January, when Sister Ruby Wilton, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Wilton, of 21 New Dapto road was married to Bandsman Vernon Drury son of Mr and Mrs A V Drury, of Purfleet. The bride and bridegroom are both well-known and popular members of the Wollongong Corps, and the bridegroom has been a member of the Band for some considerable time. Adjutant Mordue officiated, and Sister Mrs Hutchinson was pianist. Floral decorations in the Citadel had been tastefully carried out by friends of the bride. The keynote was a large arch of flowers and ferns. The bride, entering the Citadel on the arm of her father, who subsequently gave her away, looked very charming in her Salvation Army uniform, trimmed with heavy white silk cords draped from the right shoulder across the bodice. She wore a coronet of orange blossom and carried a shower bouquet of frangipanni. Sister Grace Hutchinson attended the bride, and she, too, wore her Army uniform. and added a coronet of small red flowers and carried a bouquet of red roses. Little Kay Rixon was a charming flower girl in her dainty dress of pale blue and matching headdress. She carried a basket of mixed flowers. The bridegroom who was also in uniform, was attended by his twin brother Mr Ivan Drury, of Taree, as best man. During the signing of the register, Sister Mrs H Epps sang the solo, "Take My Life." On leaving the Citadel, the bridal couple passed under an arch of timbrels held by members of the Girls' Timbrel Brigade, who formed a guard of honour. The bride's mother, smartly dressed in a black silk dress with matching accessories, received the 75 guests at the reception held in the Young People's Hall. She was assisted by the bridegroom's mother who wore a becoming gown of teal blue. During the reception Sister Dorothy Irvine, rendered a solo "Take Thou My Hand." Catering arrangements had been splendidly carried out by members of the Corps and a 3 tier wedding cake made by the bridegroom's mother, and decorated by Sister Dora Hutchinson, occupied pride of place on the wedding breakfast table. On leaving for the honeymoon the bride was attractively dressed in a costume of Jubilee blue with which she wore white accessories. After their return from the honeymoon in Sydney and Taree, Bandsman and Sister Mrs Drury will take up residence in Wollongong. |
