William Smith Dawe was baptised on 25 December 1810 at Lamerton, Devon, England
entry reads: "William Smith Son of Isaac and Sarah Dawe" [1]
On 9 March 1835 William married Mary Lang formerly Way at St Andrews Plymouth, Devon. Both were of the parish. William signed his name but Mary Lang made her mark. Witnesses were Nathaniel Daw and Tamzen Daw.[2]
In 1841 William Smith Dawe was living at Upcott Mill near Sheepwash, Devon. In about 1844 the family moved to Cornwall and on the 1851 census they were living at Trelubis near Wendron.[3]
William died on 15 May 1877 at Lower Town, Wendron, Cornwall, England and was buried on 18 May 1877 at Wendron.[4] He left a will which was proved 4 July 1877 at the Principal Registry by his son William John Dawe of Lowertown, miller, and William Rowe Woolcock, retired farmer of Wendron. His effects were under £450.[5]
