William Daw married Elizabeth Phillips on 31 Jan 1826 at St. Peter Port, Guernsey, in the Channel Islands. [4]
William appears with his wife and children in the 1841 England Census. He is listed as a a carpenter, (35). He and his wife Elizabeth (40) were resident in Fordington, Dorset, with their five children Eliza (15), Mary (12), William (9), Robert (6) and Harriet (2).[1]
Ten years later he was still living in Fordington (Miller's Close) with his family, and working as an assistant grocer and as a "local preacher"[2].
William passed away 13 May 1859, at South Stoneham, Southampton,[5] aged 58 years, of Paralysis (18 months duration). Present at the death was Joseph Daws (younger brother, residence St Dennis, South Stoneham). A gravestone at Southhampton Old Cemetery (grave E29/65) bears the following inscription:
In memory of William Dawe who departed this life May 15th 1859 aged 58 years. Hear what the voice from heaven proclaims for all the pious dead. Sweet is the saviour of their names and soft their dying bed. Also to the memory of George Voss. Son-in-law of the above. Died August 7th 1899 aged 76 years. His God sustained him in his final hour. His final hour brought glory to his God.[6]

I have thus included it here and when primary sources become available online, it can be refuted or marked as definite.

↑ Transcribed from photo of gravestone Martin Voss Family Tree. Although the provenience of the gravestone in the photo has not yet been established, the presence of William Dawe and George Voss in the same grave is sufficient evidence to accept that this is the right person, and hence take the date of death as certain. Death Certificate spells name DAWS, gravestone spells names DAWE.
