Biography

William was the son of John Bain, farmer, and lived at Lismoney, Lissan as of 1848. ^[1]

On 19 Dec 1848 at Clarkesbridge Presbyterian Church, Newry, he married Eliza Blackstock. Witnessed by John Reed and Jane Bean. ^[1]

They moved to Cookstown or somewhere nearby.

He had passed away by 1871 and perhaps even before 1860. The remaining family appear to have lived at Tamlaghtmore, Derryloran.

Research Notes

• Estimated birth date 21+ yrs before eldest known child.
• No civil death found (this began in 1864). Not found in Griffith's Valuation (c. 1859 for Tyrone)
• His children all report as being born in County Tyrone on the 1901 census , with Agnes saying Cookstown specifically.
• The five children's marriage records all say resident of Tamlaghtmore.
• "William Blackstock" is a cousin at the funeral John Bayne (abt.1852-1924).
• His brothers John, Thomas and James were born in County Armagh according to the census, so perhaps William was as well.
• Relationships between his children, and children of the linked siblings:
  • Lily Roleston witnesses the marriage Mary (Bain) Wilson (1874-).
  • Sarah (Bain) Reid (1853-)'s husband's funeral appears to name John Bayne (abt.1862-) of Gortnagross as a cousin
  • The list of cousins at John Bayne (abt.1852-1924)'s funeral seems to match the grandchildren of John Bain (abt.1800-1871).
