Biography

John passed away 31 December 1871 age 71, married, at Lismoney, Lissan. Informed by David Bain, son, Lismoney. ^[1]

John may have originally been from County Armagh; moving to Lismoney, which is near Moneymore, perhaps around 1840. Most or all of the Bayne surname in County Londonderry seem to descend from John.

Research Notes

• The linked children all have marriage records stating residence Lismoney, and father John.
• There are several obituaries of children and grandchildren linking Elizabeth, William, James, Thomas, and John as siblings; and one linking Isaac's son Samuel C. Isaac was the marriage witness for James.
• Martha and David do not have obituaries linking them to the other siblings, however David died young and Martha moved to Belfast, so they may not have attended funerals of others in Cookstown.
• The sons John, Thomas and James were all born in County Armagh, according to their censuses. Elizabeth's says she was born in County Derry; it was fairly common for censuses to give the current residence as birthplace though.
• His son William's wife was from Keady, County Armagh; and Isaac's wife was also from Armagh. It's possible John was originally from there as well.
• The middle name "Acheson" occurs in two of his grandchildren; so perhaps that is his wife or mother's maiden name.
• His death registration says "Married" , but no obvious death registration for a wife. The only possible match in Magherafelt SRD is an Elizabeth dies 1894 age 102 (!) however she is further north in the district. Perhaps his wife moved or was misspelt/unregistered death.
• All of the Bayne in PRONI Will Calendars for Londonderry look to be profiles in this tree, except for William Bayne (abt.1850-1909) of Ballygonny, who was also from Armagh (and married a Blackstock also).
• He appears in Griffith's Valuation at Lismoney lot 15 as "John Bean".

There is an 1862 marriage, John Bayne of Ballymaguigan, widower, son of Moses Bayne. Seems likely to be a different John as Ballymaguigan is not near Lismoney. There is an 1846 marriage Eliza Bayne dau of Moses, also around the Magherafelt area; and an Edward in Griffith's Valuation. They may be an unrelated family ?
