Biography
Willie Wyche is a part of US Black heritage.
Willie was born about 1869. He is the son of Peter Wyche and Betsy Stevens. He was one of 16 children. The family had been enslaved by Billy Stevens of Upson County, Georgia. After the war, the family rented land from Kit Parker in Monroe County, Georgia.
His father was part Indian and a free man of color until he was captured in Virginia, taken to Georgia and sold into slavery to the Wych family in Macon. He was cook at the Wych's "The Brown House" for years then sold to Billy Stevens in Upson County. His parents were married by jumping the broom while at Billy Steven's plantation.[1]
In the 1870 census Willie (age 1) was in Monroe, Georgia, United States.[2]
