Hi Connie

This is the time for the annual 2024 check in with members of the Military and War Project. Have you been active during the last six months in the Military and War Project? Do you want to remain working with this project? Note that it is a requirement to respond to the Military and War Project Check-ins. Please respond to this message by clicking the reply button below this message, to post your answer. I look forward to hearing from you..

Many thanks,

Mary, I've been busy working on a project related to Operation/Exercise Tiger -- (Space:WWII_Operation_Tiger). My project involves researching the 900 or so soldiers and sailors who died on or were involved with the 28 Apr 1944 D-Day preparation exercise debacle. It's slow-going, and sometimes really heartbreaking (the tragedy of that day appears to have bred other tragedies for those involved; like the exercise commander who committed suicide a couple of months afterward). Also, many of those lost were in their early twenties so documentation is limited...but the challenge is worth it.

Hi & thank you for joining the Virginia Project. We have two google groups - one for discussion and one for managed profiles. Send a join request if you'd like to join either or both (include your WikiTree ID so we know it's you).

If you haven't already looked it over, Virginia Project is the main project page and has lots more information.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Cheers, Liz

P.S. I was born in DC but have lived in Virginia all my life - I now live in Prince William County... you wouldn't recognize it if you haven't been back recently. Going from Dale City to Manassas, which I used to do quite often, I would sometimes think I'd taken a wrong turn, so much had changed along my route!

Hello, Connie!

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Help:Pre-1700 Profiles page.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Connie, Thanks so much for being part of the Toddlin' Tortoises Team for the 2nd 2022 Connect-a-Thon back in April. Every well-constructed profile added helps to grow a healthier Tree!
Two tortoises — Hertyl and Spertyl Slowsky — stand facing each other. Between them is the stylised WikiTree "DNA Tree" logo, with the words "Wonderful WikiTreer" superimposed over the lower portion of the globe. Beneath the tableau are the words "We're all winners in the end" — because we are. All winners.

Thanks, Melanie, but I have to admit I don't think I know what I'm doing! I enjoy the discovery that comes with research and then I'm just filling in the blanks. (I still don't know how to do those profile badge things.)

Hi Connie,

You are all set for the Military and War Project badge as well as the Military and War Google Group. Now you surprise us with your ancestors' profiles, good sources, maybe even add a sticker to the profile after writing it. Thank you for your service and interest in the Military and War Project.

Sure. Sorry, didn't mean to break the rules. I've just done so much work and research on Ancestry, it seems redundant. I'll check out the Family Tree & Tools tab suggested by Cindy Lesure, then go back and fix the sources.
