Biography

David Woods was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, USA.

David Herron Woods was born 3 Nov 1782 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania, [1] as the third born child of John Woods Jr. (1745-1821) and Elizabeth (Herron) Woods (abt.1744-1810).[2]

David married Catherine (Campbell) Woods (abt.1796-1870) in Franklin County, PA in 1815.[3]

Their first daughter, Hannah (Woods) Montague (1817-1900) was born 2 Feb 1817 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.[4]

A daughter, Cynthia Ann (Woods) Darnell (1823-1903) was born in Pennsylvania on 23 Nov 1823. Cynthia (misspelled as Cinthia) Ann Woods was baptized on 13 Apr 1824, at the Middle Spring Presbyterian Church in Shippensburg, Cumberland, Pennsylvania, USA (David is substantiated as father.)[5][6].

They had eleven children prior to migrating through Ohio to Little Rock, Kendall County, Illinois in the late 1840's. Not all came to Illinois.[7]

Their children were: Hannah (Woods) Montague (1817-1900), Elizabeth (Woods) Lamb (1818-1861), William Woods (1821-1846), Cynthia Ann (Woods) Darnell (1823-1903), David Herron Woods (1826-1898), Martha Woods (1828-1915), Jane Woods (1828-1875), Catherine Woods (1831-1902), Isaac Spence (1835-1903), Agness (?) Woods (1837-1841), and John Woods (?-1939)[8]

David died from "Dropsy" [9] on 5 Jun 1849 in Little Rock, Kendall, Illinois, USA and is buried in the Little Rock Township Cemetery in Plano, Kendall, Illinois.A joint grave stone shows the inscription David H Woods 1782-1849, Catharine Campbell Woods 1796-1870, and Elizabeth Woods Lamb 1818-1861.[10]

Woods family information is incorporated into the lineage of John and Mary (Espy) Woods and Col. David and Jane (Woods) Espy and was found in a book ("The Espy-Espey Genealogy Book with Branch Lines and Allied Families," Vol. 2, George Chapter II and by Rita Espy Kuhbander and William G. Espy (Baltimore: Gateway Press, 1987) and from Ruby Wigley Pullman, Charlotte M Brett, Lois M. Postel, Gloria Sutcliffe; and Joseph L. Delafield,"Genealogies of Penn. Families" published by the Genealogical Publishing Co. note that there are discrepancies! The Espy book does not show the descendants of George Woods, b. in 1740, but it does for 11a. John Woods, b. 1742, 11b. William Woods, b. 1747; and 11c. Anna Woods, b. 1753 all shown to be children of John and Mary (Espy) Woods. It states that John Woods was b. c. 1720 in Ireland, d. 1769; m. Mary Espy, b. 1722. It further states that John Woods was the son of Andrew Woods b.c. 1690 in Blair Park, Ulster, Ireland and d. Aug. 1756 in Lancaster, Penn. He and his wife Sarah (maiden name ?)Woods (born in Ireland) NOTE: People shown in red in this research note need to be cross-checked to see if each is properly profiled at Wiki.
