Biography

The daughter of John Witt and Daisy (Boozer) Clamp, Susan Witt was born in Alachua County, Florida in 1902.^{[citation needed]} Her father died in 1904 and her mother returned to her home in Newberry, South Carolina, marrying William Clamp. Susie lived with her family in Newberry.^[1] Her mother passed away in 1918 and Susie and her sister, Johnnie, moved in with their grandmother, Lucy (Shealy) Boozer, residing in Newberry, South Carolina.^[2]

Susie married Frank Claude Norris, the son of Wilson Abney Norris and Lucy Hargrove, making their home in Greenwood, South Carolina, where both Susie and her husband worked at a cotton mill, Frank Norris working there as a weaver and Susie working there as a spinner.^[3] In 1940, still working at the cotton mill, her household included her niece and nephew, 4-year-old Rosa Clamp and 7-year-old George C. Clamp, liley the children of her half-sister, Mary E. Clamp.^[4]

Susan Norris died of pancreatic cancer, passing at Self Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, South Carolina at the age of 58.^[5] She and her husband are buried at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Hodges, South Carolina.^[6]
