Nathaniel Wilder's wife Sarah Phillips is NOT the mother of Job Wilder, Hopkins Wilder and William Wilder. Job Wilder, Hopkins Wilder and William are the sons of Nathaniel Wilder and Nathaniel's Second wife, whose name is unknown. (NOTE: Sarah Philips is currently listed as Nathaniel's wife as her name is known and Did not want to create a profile for a wife whose first and last name are currently unknown).
Nathaniel Wilder was born about 1667 in Lower Norfolk county, Virginia, based on Nathaniel stating that he was 62 years old when he gave a deposition on 9 July 1729, in Lancaster County, Virginia.[1] Nathaniel is the son of Henry Wilder and his wife Dorothy Surname unknown.
Nathaniel Wilder listed his occupation as carpenter in a deed to his nephew, Edward Wilder: "I Nathaniel Wilder of the County of Norfolk, carpenter, being co-owner of the half part of a parcel of land containing 90 acres with my brother Charles Wilder, Dec'd, and the afsd land not being divided in his lifetime, I the subscriber am willing to acknowledge the aforesaid land unto Edward Wilder, the son of Charles Wilder, dec'd . . .set my hand & seal this 16th of July 1697 [signed] Nathaniel N [his mark] Wilder . . . Nathaniel purchased in 1727, a half acre lot in the town of Queens Town in Lancaster county, Virginia. The deed reads in part as follows: "This Indenture made the third day of January in the first year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord King George the Second one thousand seven hundred twenty seven Between Robert Carter Esq. of Lancaster county surviving Tcostee of the Town land of the said county . . . Witnesseth that the said Robert Carter for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred eighty eight pounds of good sound merchantable tobacco to him in hand paid by the said Nathaniel Wildey the receipt whereof he the said Robert Carter doth hereby acknowledge . . . sold and doth by these presents grant bargain and sett unto the said Nathaniel Wildey his heirs and assines for ever one lott or half acre of land within the Town now called Queens Town number Forty according to the platt thereof made and laid of into lotts by Harry Beverly surveyor . . . said lott or half acres lying on the upper side of George Street as by the said platt more plainly appears To have and to hold the said lott or half acre to him the said Nathaniel Wildey . . . provided that the said Nataniel Wildey do begin to build on the said lott within twelve months after the date hereof and do proceed to finish without delay one good house twenty foot square at the least otherwise this grant to be void and the lott herein granted liable to the choice and purchase of any other person according to law as fully and amply as if this grant had never been made In witness whereof the partys to these presents have interchangeably sett their hands and seales to two of these Indentures of the same tenor and date signed sealed and delivered in presence of Thos Edwards, R'd Loo, Ch's Carter, Alexr Edgar [signed] Robert Carter At a court held for Lancaster county of the 10th day of January 1727 This deed was in open court acknowledged by Rob't Carter Esq to be his act and deed and admitted to record and is recorded"[3]
Nathaniel Wilder was married twice. Nathaniel Wilder married first Sarah Phillips, the daughter of William Phillips. Sarah died sometime after 1691 and before 1729. Sarah is named as Nathaniel's wife in a deed dated 19th June, 1691, in Norfolk county, Virginia, for the sale of land from Nathaniel and Sarah to Thomas Labor.[4] The name of Nathaniel's second wife is currently unknown, as she is listed in his will as "my beloved wife".
Nathaniel and Sarah Phillips were the parents of Michael Wilder. Nathaniel gave the followiing deposition in regard to Michael Wilder being his son by his late wife Sarah. The deposition reads in part as follows: "Land [Lancaster] The deposition of Nathan'l Wildy of the county of Land. in the Colony of Virginia aged Sixty two years or thereabouts being first sworn in open Court sayeth that Mich'd Wildy now in full life is ye son of this depon't lawfully begotten on ye body of Sarah his late wife the only daughter of Wm Phillips and that this dep't hath often heard his said wife Sarah say y't there was a parcel of land of ye quantity of one hundred & fifty acres lying in Eliza City County near Hampton & now or lately in the possion of one Curlo of that place which legally decended to her and to which the said Michael is the only surviving heir and further this deponent sayth not July ye 9th 1729 [signed] Nathaniel his N mark Wildy At a Court held for Land. County on the 9th day of July 1729 this deposition was sworn to in open Court by Nathan'l Wildy aforesaid admitted to record and is recorded."[5]

Nathaniel Wilder made his last will & testament in Lancaster County, Virginia on the ____ day of 1730. Nathaniel's will reads as follows: "In the name of God Amen I Nathaniel Willdy of Land [Lancaster] County & White Chappel Parish being sick and weak of body but of sound & perfect memory thanks be to God for the same I bequeath my Soul to the Lord from hence it came and my body to the earth to be buried by my Ex'r as follows. I give and bequeath to my beloved wife and my son Hopkins Wilde my land both to live on it while she remains widow but the said wife to have no further to do with anything belonging to the Plantation only her peaceable living while she remain widow but to remain the said Hopkins Wilde & his heirs forever lawfully begotten of his body and in case the said Hopkins Wilde dies without heirs to return to the next heir. I give & bequeath unto said son Hopkins all my working tools to him and his heirs for ever only to pay forty shillings namely to my son William Wildy and my daughter Sarah Wilde my desire is that my son William Wildy to live with his brother Hopkins Wildy till he comes of age. I give & bequeath to my son William Wildy my other lott of land to him & his heirs forever lawfully begotten of his body I give to my Daughter Catherine one ?? I give to my son Mail and my son Job and my daughter Darkis one shilling a peace I do hereby nominate and appoint my loved wife and my son Hopkins Willdy Ex,r of this my last will and testament [signed] Nathaniel his N mark Wildy Signed sealed and witnessed in presence of George Lite Junr, John Pines At a court held for Land County on the 10th day of June 1730 This will was proved in open court by the oaths of George Lite Junr & John Pines witnesses thereto and admitted to record & is recorded Test S.
