Biography

Ethel (Westmoreland) Funderburg is a part of US Black heritage.

Ethel Westmoreland, daughter of Isaac Westmoreland and [[Love-6665|Emma Love], was born in 1895 in Georgia. She attended the Atlanta Public schools and graduated from Atlanta University in 1914. She was a teacher at both Virginia State College and in Wilson College in North Carolina, prior to her marriage to Dr. Frederick Funderburg in Monticello, Georgia. ^[1]

She and her husband raised five children together ^[2] while he practiced medicine as the first African American physician to practice medicine in the city of Monticello. Ethyl passed in 1959.

Ethel's son, Frederick, was a Tuskegee airman who lost his life while on a mission. He continues to be listed as Missing in Action.
