Biography

George Funderburg is a part of US Black heritage.

George Newton Funderburg was born in 1925. He was the son of Frederick Funderburg and Ethyl Westmoreland, born in Monticello, Georgia. George made a living as a door-to-door salesman while young, eventually settling in South Philadelphia. He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Upon return, George attended the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and earned a bachelor's degree in business. In addition, he earned a Realtor license and opened a firm called Urban Developers.

He passed away in 2006 and is buried in Woodlands Cemetery in Philadelphia. [1]

George's eldest brother, First Lieutenant Frederick Funderburg, was a Tuskegee airman who died while on a mission in Italy. He continues to be Missing in Action.
