Biography

Olive Welby was the daughter of Richard Welby, Esq. of Whaplode and Moulton, Lincolnshire, and Frances Bulkeley.[1] She was baptized at Moulton, Lincolnshire, England on 17 June 1604.[1][2]

Olive married at Boston, Lincolnshire, on 16 April 1629 Dea. Henry Farwell,[3] tailor, at St. Botolph's Church.[1] They had three sons and three daughters:

The family immigrated to New England about 1636, first residing at Concord and then at Chelmsford, Massachusetts.[1]

Olive's husband Henry died 1 August 1670 at Chelmsford, Massachusetts, leaving a will dated 12 July 1670.[1] Olive died at Chelmsford on 1 March 1691/2.[1]

Research Notes

Descendant of Edward I

Olive is also a descendant of King Edward I of England.[4]

Burial

An unsourced Find a Grave memorial has her buried at the Forefathers Burying Ground in Chelmsford; however, there are no Farwells listed in the cemetery's burial records.[5]

Olive (Welby) Farwell is listed in Magna Carta Ancestry as a Gateway Ancestor (vol. I, pages xxiii-xxix) and is in a Richardson-documented trail to Magna Carta surety baron Saher de Quincy (MCA I:346-348 BULKELEY). This trail was project-approved/badged in Feb 2015 by a Magna Carta project member and was re-reviewed in Feb 2020. See the Magna Carta Trails section in the profile of her grandfather, Edward Bulkeley, to see the profiles in this trail.
Olive is also a Gateway Ancestor, through her father, in a Richardson-documented trail to surety barons Hugh le Bigod and Roger le Bigod, which can be found in Magna Carta Ancestry (vol. IV, pages 298-302 WELBY), however, this trail has not yet been developed and approved by the Magna Carta Project on WikiTree. This trail can be seen in the Magna Carta Trails section on her father's profile.
See Base Camp for more information about identified Magna Carta trails and their status. See the project's glossary for project-specific terms, such as a "badged trail".

Fun fact. According to the relationship finder, Olive is descended from Hugh Bigod and Gilbert de Clare. Her grandfather, Edward Bulkeley, is only descended from Roger Bigod and Gilbert's grandfather Roger de Clare.

I can trace to 12 other surety barons and King John (Plantagenet-143) and his marshal Sir William Marshal(Marshal-4) through Welby-8. Is anyone interested in these lines?
posted by David Hine
David, I'd be interested in these lines, especially to William Marshall.
