Research Note

The U.S. 1950 Census ^[3] record for the family of Clint and Helen (Barton) Weaver identifies a son, Clinton A. Weaver, living in the household. He is shown as an unmarried 21-year old who works as an apprentice in a machine shop, and he has not served in the armed forces. We have found no other records of this Clinton, and we question whether he actually existed. At this point we have no evidence of a birth, death, interment, marriage, or high school graduation, and he is not listed with the family in the 1940 or 1930 census records. We have found no newspaper records either. Several senior family members who were born prior to 1950 and were acquainted with Clint and Helen Weaver (including the Profile Manager) have no knowledge of any child other than their son Barton. Clinton, if he existed, would have been a second cousin of the Profile Manager.

We know it's possible that the visit of the census enumerator could have coincided with a visit by another family member who was accidentally mislabeled as a resident son. But we have searched Clint's family and have not found any viable candidate who fits the description of Clinton, so we think the possibility is unlikely. We have therefore deleted a profile that existed briefly for son Clinton.

"Clinton P. Weaver, 70, owner of the Weaver Barber Shop in the Wayne Building, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday at his home, 700 Prospect Avenue. He had been in failing health for the past year and was confined to the Washington County Hospital in December. He was critically ill since last Friday.

"Mr. Weaver was born in Adams County, July 31, 1900, son of the late Harry and Laura Pfoutz Weaver. His early life was lived in Adams County and for several years he made his home in Gettysburg where he operated a trucking business.

"He and his family moved to Blue Ridge Summit in 1934 and for 10 years, Mr. Weaver worked at Landis Tool Co. He was later employed by the Waynesboro Gas Co. until he opened his barber shop in the Wayne Building in 1957.

"Mr. Weaver had made his home on Prospect Avenue since 1956. His wife, Mrs. Helen M. Barton Weaver, died in October, 1962.

"Mr. Weaver was a member of the Waynesboro Church of the Brethren. He was also a member of the Waynesboro Barber's Association.

"He is survived by one son, C. Barton Weaver, Waynesboro. Mr. Weaver was the last of his immediate family.

"The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in the Grove Funeral Home in charge of the Rev. Samuel H. Flora Jr. Burial will be made in Green Hill Cemetery.

"Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday."
