Biography

Ann (Waterhouse) Alchin was a Bounty Immigrant to New South Wales.

Ann was born in 1799. Her parents were John WATERHOUSE and Elizabeth CRADDOCK. She passed away in 1858. ^[1]

Ann arrived in Sydney 26 September 1838, with her husband and 7 children aboard the 'Palmyra'. ^[2]

The record shows her to have been a 'general servant', 'Baptist', age 36 with a birthdate of 16 Mar (suggesting birth in 1802 rather than 1799), and a native of Staplehurst, Kent, who could both read and write.^{[3] [4]}

Research Notes

If, as seems to be suggested by her immigration record, that Anne was Baptist, then there will be no childhood baptismal record for her. There will also not be any civil birth registration as this was the era before this was introduced. The best that could be expected is an adult baptismal record, but a search of www.thegenealogist.co.uk does not seem to find anything for her in 'non-conformist baptisms' in the period 1795 - 1835.
