Biography

"Lord George Walton, son of Robart Walton, was born about 1645 in England."[1]

George Walton was born about 1645 in England. He married Catherine (born about 1655).[2]

Their son George was born 18 March 1682/83 in England and died 31 October 1766 in St. Andrews Parish, Brunswick County, Virginia.[2]

Baptism: 24 Oct 1647, St Andrew Par Reg and Nonconf, Newcastle Upon Tyne, Northumberland, England.[3]
Arrival: 1719 in Virginia[4]

Research Notes

Death date of 1714 conflicts with "arrival" in Virginia in 1719; 7 February 1714 may be another person's death date - for example, George Walton-3804 has death as 7 Feb 1714 in Brunswick, Colony of Virginia, America.[5]

Profile for George Wheeldon had same dates and father (Robert Walton) as this profile and was merged. However, it appears that the place in the death field - All Saints Churchyard, Elton, Derbyshire, England - was more likely for a George Wheeldon than George Walton, based on the following marriage record:

George Wheeldon and Mary Sheldon married 28 October 1683 at All Saints Church, Elton parish, Derbyshire[6] Perhaps the death date belongs to George Wheeldon also: 7 February 1714. (Both "7 Feb 1714" and "All Saints Churchyard, Elton, Derbyshire, England" were removed from the datafields in November 2020.)

Searching freereg.org on 10 September 2018 for Wheeldon in Elton, Derbyshire & Walton in Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland did not turn up a record for a marriage of George Walton and Catherine or for the baptism of George Walton or his son.

Source for additional info on wife Catherine? (Tobler just has Catherine Unknown, born about 1655).

Tobler's post was captured by archive.org's WayBack machine (here).

a son John (who married Rebecca Walton) is mentioned on this site - which is about the descendants of Robert and Frances Sherwood (and does not include this George).

That site looks into John Waltons on this page - interesting reading.

return on baptism (not sure the link will work - search was for George Walton, 1630/1730, all counties - baptism (witnesses, family; not soundex).

Several in Yorkshire, North Riding & also several in Durham. One in Northumberland (but 1726 - after this George died).

None of them were especially promising either. The closest by date for this George showed that his father was George. The closest for son George showed his father was John.

There was a record for a George Walton (son of George & Mary) baptized 8 March 1690 at St Peter and St Paul, Osbournby, Lincolnshire (this record, transcribed by MaryK). Again, not especially promising, but the 8 March date was interesting, considering profile text says this George's son was baptized 18 March (albeit 1682/3).

A narrow name search of freereg.org (not Soundex) turned up some results but none seem especially promising as being for this George Walton.
Georgius Walton buried 18 Feb 1715/16, St Andrew church, Kildwick, Yorkshire, West Riding - "burial person abode: Cowling" (this record, transcribed by John Kenneth Andrews)
George Walton m Katherine Atkinson on 19 Feb 1666/7 at St Nicholas church in Durham (this record, transcribed by Sue Haycraft) - no other info in record

Lots of returns for baptism of George Walton (date range 1630 to 1730).

I think that both the death date and location should be deleted from the datafields (see Research Notes).

OK by you?

I set Walton-3777 and Walton-1529 as rejected - their children were baptized in different location. A search of freereg.org for George Walton, buried 1700-1720 returned six different Georges, so it's much more likely that Walton-3777 and Walton-1529 are different men than the same.

Walton-3777 and Walton-1529 are not ready to be merged because: postponing to allow for research

Wheeldon-40 and Walton-1529 appear to represent the same person because: Same dates and father
Hi! I'm merging duplicate profiles of Robert Walton. Could you detach the profile for George Wheeldon? Wheeldon wouldn't be the son of Walton and father of Walton... or did you mean for him to be son of Robert (making him a duplicate of Walton-1529)?
