Biography

Anne was born in 1842 in St. Pancras, Middlesex, England to John Veitch (1809-1878) (II), and Margaret (Forrest) Veitch (abt.1810-1853). She was baptised on 15 May 1842 at the Scotch United Secession Church, Oxenden Street in St Martin in the Fields, Middlesex, England. She had 4 other siblings: Margaret (Veitch) Witchell (1837-1910) & Christina (Veitch) Hoskings (1838-abt.1912), John Veitch (1840-abt.1907) III and William Veitch (1843-1921).

Her residence with her family is in St. Pancras, Middlesex until we find the family emigrating to Australia in 1852 aboard the ship, Hebrides. Her father John was a pianoforte maker. Anne was about 10 years old when she came to Australia. They landed 27 Oct 1852 in Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne. The family settled in Bendigo, Victoria.

On 21 May 1862 aged 20, at All Saints Church in Bendigo, Victoria she married Thomas Stevens (abt.1834-1888) (III). She and Thomas had 6 children: John Thomas Stevens (abt.1863-abt.1865), Alfred William Stevens (1865-abt.1935), Cecelia Ann (Stevens) Roberts (abt.1867-1933), Margaret Elizabeth (Stevens) Marchingo (abt.1869-), Emily Silvina (Stevens) James (1871-1943), and Harriett Jessie Naomi (Stevens) Lloyd (1873-1938). They resided in Diamond Hill and Golden Gully, Bendigo until her death in 1918 aged 76. She passed away 13 June 1981 of cancer of the neck, and is buried at White Hills Cemetery, Bendigo with her husband Thomas.

I have just viewed the document and the header on each of the pages is as follows:

Baptisms solemnized in the Scotch United Secession Church, Oxendon St in the Parish of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, in the County of Middlesex in the year 183_ So I will correct the spelling from Sucession to Secession.
