Content was a Friend (Quaker)

Content was born on 20 Oct 1702 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay Colony.[1] She was the daughter of Nathaniel Howland and Rose (Allen) Howland.[1][2]

She married first Weston Briggs in 1725.[2][3] She was disowned by the Dartmouth monthly meeting on 19d 5m 1725 [19 Jul 1725] for marrying out of society.[2] The condemnation is as follows:[2]

Whereas Content Howland Daughter of Nathaniel Howland deceased and Rose Howland his widow of Dartmouth in the county of Bristol in New England: having been Educated amongst friends her parents professing them Selves to be of the people Called Quakers hath of Late proceeded in marriage Contrary to the good order established amongst us on that account we do therefore Give this forth as a publick Testimony against the Said disorderly proceeding and also do deny ye said Content now wife of Weston Briggs to be of us the people Called Quakers Sincerely Desiring that if it be the will of god She may Come to a sight and Sense of this and all other her outgoings and by an unfeigned repentance find mercy with the Lord and his people: Signed at our monthly meeting held in Dartmouth the 19th day of the 5th month 1725.

She married second Thomas Howland in 1734 Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts.[4][5] Roberts gives her married to her first cousin Thomas Howland and having a son David Howland on 25 Aug 1734 in Dartmouth.[6]

Content was the mother of Walter Briggs of Dartmouth.[3]
