It is not known who Ann's parents are. Her surname never appeared in the records of New Netherland.
Presumed daughter of Thomas Janse Van Dyke and Sytje Verks Dirks
There is a family tradition that she was Dutch and that she might have been a van Dyke or a van Dincklage and the daughter of one of the Schout Fiscaels in New Netherland, possibly Hendrick van Dyck/Dyke or Lubbert van Dincklage. Somewhere along the way, family genealogists have conflated all of the van Dykes into one family and she was given the parents of Thomas Jansz van Dyke and Sytie Dircks. There are no sources to support any of these parents.
"Of Ann, the wife of Nicholas Stillwell, the First, little is known. She was probably an English woman, for she subsequently became the wife of William Wilkins and of William Foster, both Englishmen, and nowhere among the Dutch records, wherein her name appears and where the opportunity has been ample, has her surname been given, as was common among the Dutch of that day." [1]
"The statement that the wife of Nicholas Stillwell, the First, was a Dutch woman rests on too meagre evidence to be entertained. Judge Nicholas Stillwell, a descendant through Nicholas Stillwell, the Second, and a resident of Gravesend, had a hazy tradition that either the first or the second Nicholas Stillwell brought from Leyden, Holland, 'a Dutch wife and a couple of children'; and from Benjamin M. Stilwell came the assertion that she was either a Van Dyke or a Van Dincklage, daughter of the New Amsterdam Schout Fiscal of that name. With him, Benjamin M. Stilwell, it was merely a belief that she was a member of one of these two families, based upon some remote association in his mind of these names, but of proof he had none." [1]

I’m having a hard time finding sources that support the assertion that the first wife of Lt. Nicholas Stillwell Jr. (Stillwell-18) was Annetje (Unknown) Wilkins (Unknown-329619) and that Annetje had a son, Capt. Nicholas (Stillwell-52). I am aware of the difficulty in finding original sources to show that Abigail Hopton was the mother of Nicholas and his older brother, Richard (Stillwell-149), but I’m not sure that Annetje (Unknown) Wilkins is any better attested.
For example, the marriage of Nicholas, Sr. and Annetje took place about 1641 in New Amsterdam, New York. Yet, their son, Richard, was born in 1634 in Leyden, South Holland Netherlands. Similarly, Capt. Nicholas was born in 1636 also in Holland, Nederland. These dates and places don’t seem to add up unless you assume that Lt. Nicholas Stillwell Jr. (Stillwell-18) met Annetje in the Netherlands, had two sons out of wedlock in the 1630s, then immigrated to New Amsterdam as a family where Nicholas and Annetje were married in 1641. Is this what actually happened?
A few other details confused me. First, the name “VanDyke” does not appear in the name on the profile’s header, but it does in the “First Marriage” section. Second, Capt. Richard Stillwell was listed as Annetje VanDyke’s son on her profile, but the name of Capt. Nicholas Stillwell (Stillwell-51) does not appear anywhere on the list of Annetje’s children. Third, at a time when middle names allegedly were not used as frequently as they are today, two middle names appear on the list of her children and one of them is Abigail. Was this just a coincidence or did Lt. Nicholas Stillwell name his daughter, Alice Abigail Stillwell, after his first wife?
I’m sure I must have missed something, so if you could direct me to sources that could help reduce my uncertainty, I would most appreciate it. Thank you in advance for your help.
There is no evidence that she was mother of Richard and Nicholas who by all accounts came to America with their widower father. They should not have been attached as her sons imho and I have removed the connection.
They were formerly listed as sons of Abigail Unknown, but it looks like someone changed their mother back to the unproven and unlikely Hopton and then someone came along and detached them from her and added them here.
I think the previous birth year 1602 was based on the years of Birth (ages) of her parents and the according the info from her Bio 'hazy tradition' (she was from the Netherlands and either was a van Dyke or a van Dincklage) and many of the online genealogies.
Unfortunately he link isn't working and not sure if we have a source for her death that actually shows she was 84 years of age, if there's a source that does, we of course can correct her year of Birth to 1602...
Greets from the Netherlands and thanks for the help, it's appreciated !

She may have had a 3rd marriage to one William Foster who by 1st wife Valentine-2172 had 2 ch as named in his will of 1687, the will names a 2nd or 3rd wife "Hannah"
Van Dyke-570 and Unknown-329619 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest maternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge into the NNS PPP. No tree conflicts. Add nickname Annetji.. I believe the son Richard born 1634 is in error both here and on Geni, because he was born in England, before the father came over to America with his children at that time. The father's first wife supposedly died back in England in 1638. So any children born before that would have to be hers. But we can study and fix that later. Thanks!
Based on the fact that the first time her surname was given was in a family genealogy book from 1878, I think she should be detached from Dircks-128 and Van_Dyck-73 and her LNAB changed to Unknown with links to the above people explaining that she might be related, but based on family tradition, these aren't even the assumed parents if she was indeed related to one of the Schout-Fiscaels.
They did name a son Thomas but their children's names all appear to be English.
It wasn't uncommon for English folks to be called by Dutch first names in records, such as Theophilus Ellsworth commonly being called "Stoffel", so it is possible that Annetje may not have been her first name.

I didn't think this was possible with the PPP.

New Netherlands Project has determined that her LNAB is Unknown.
So New Netherland's Project has changed her last name to Unknown.
This profile should be merged into Unknown-329619
